In many companies art is simply decoration. Decoration doesn't tell your story, further your vision or provide an ROI. If your artwork doesn't strengthen your brand to your shareholders and your team, ask yourself: "Why Not?"

Our Process

1. Story

We interview you about your company, its history and your vision.

2. Translate

We scout and photograph your environment developing a visual vocabulary that we use to tell your story using contemporary art.

3. Exhibit

We reveal your story in a custom art exhibit that we install on site and explore other ways our art can support your brand.

About Understory

Eric Melzer founded Understory to bring together his experiences in editorial, commercial and fine art image creation to help companies tell their personal stories. He's spent 20 years photographing in 45 countries for publications like The New York Times to corporations like Cummins Power Generation. He lends a photojournalist's eye to corporate environments creating abstract exhibits. The resulting visual narratives express corporate stories with artful confidence.

He assembles custom teams of creatives to best express these narratives in site-specific exhibits. Sculpture, motion picture, digital apps and illustration support the core fine art photographic exhibits he creates.

Andy DuCett has trained as a designer and animator, and now works as an educator and fine artist. He received his MFA from the University of Illinois and teaches at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. His artwork has been shown around the country, including galleries in Chicago, Minneapolis, San Francisco, and New York City. He has been published by Artforum, New American Paintings, The Daily Beast and Art Pulse Magazine, has been commissioned to make work for the Walker Art Center and The Minneapolis Institute of Arts and is included in the curated registry of the Drawing Center in New York City.
